Prize Poems
Every week the children in Room 16 illustrate a poem.
This week they voted these three poems as the best illustrated poems of the week.
Great poems need to have pictures relevant to the poem, be finished and show careful colouring and drawing.

Mr Cricket
Mr Cricket
At 10:30 we walked downstairs and went to the court and met a man called Gareth or Mr Cricket. He was teaching us cricket. Today was a nice sunny day for cricket. For cricket Gareth had to set up cones, wickets and balls. First he got us into teams. Then we picked up a bat and ran with the ball and slid it over the line. We had to practice for a little bit and then we had to practice running and sliding the bat over the line. We came back after morning tea and had a real game. Gareth said two groups are fielders, two other groups are batters so the first batter came up and hit the ball then the fielders had to catch it. We had to touch the wickets until we had brought all the balls back. At the end we got a special bag with all kinds of things and a subway card!

Room 16 went to cricket so we could learn about cricket. First we did some sliding with the bat across the ground. After that we threw the ball and caught it with our hands making a cup shape. Then it was the morning tea bell so everybody ran to class to get their lunch box and eat. After play time we came back to cricket to have a real game of cricket. Someone hit three balls at the same time. I was a fielder and I had to catch the ball because that’s what I had to do.

Today I did cricket on the court with my class. Mr Cricket put us in four groups and we batted the balls that were on top of the yellow cones. We hit the ball off the cones and the others had to get the balls that we hit. We also threw the balls up and down too. We slid the bat across the yellow line and back again. At the end we got a special bag. We are allowed to take it home.

On Wednesday a cricket man came to teach us some cricket tips. He split us all into four groups. We had to run with the cricket bat and slide it on the floor. Next we did some cricket . . . . then we had some morning tea. After that we did some more cricket I had lots of fun. I love cricket

Mr Gareth showed us some cool cricket skills, and the cricket skills were batting, sliding and catching. After morning tea we had a competition and both teams got to bat and field. We got 100 points and they got 121 points so we lost and they won!
